Clothing Dive

Recently, I’ve been volunteering on Sundays to hand out donated clothing, new socks, water, electrolytes, and hygiene products, and menstrual packs.

Food Not Bombs (FNB) Phoenix has been providing food at this park for a while but Phoenix passed an ordinance that made it criminal to provide food or medical help for “charitable or similar humanitarian purposes”. While fighting this law, which violates our 1st Amendment rights, FNB has moved the food distribution to a private home a few blocks away. As a means of protesting and to direct folks to the food location, we’re handing out things that aren’t food or medical. The group has been harassed by cops a few times but they can’t do anything because we’re not breaking the ordinance.

The “men’s” clothing table has been small each week and gets picked over super quick. We certainly need more men’s clothes donated.

Because most of the folks we’re serving are living unsheltered, light weight clothes made of organic materials are the most needed.

I’ve missed a few Sundays while out of town, but this is now my regular Sunday Evening routine till further notice.

Bonus, I’m doing this with my friend Jonathan, so we get to hang out almost every week.
